How to Support HCA

Heritage Christian Academy (HCA) was established in 2004 and is deeply committed to providing a distinctively Christian and exceptional academic education to the youth of the Claiborne County region. Located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains just 16 miles from the Lincoln Memorial University Campus in Harrogate Tennessee and only 40 miles from Knoxville Tennessee.  The Academy recognizes different denominational expressions of the Christian faith and includes all of those in the student body. It provides a traditional, statutory, and religious curriculum.

HCA is a non-profit organization whose funding is solely provided for from the generosity of individuals, churches and businesses in the area.  Heritage was chosen as a name due to the fact that it conveys what we want our children to have - a heritage.  We expect that our children will be well grounded in the Bible and exemplify its teachings.  The word heritage conveys pride in the place of our up bringing and home. Religious and family values are a part of our heritage, so the name has many implications; all of which are positive.  It is our opinion that we have over looked our cultural and religious heritage far too long. It is hoped that in using the word it will remind us over and over of what a great region we live in and what a great God we serve.

The school has been designed to provide K-3 through 8th grades and we hope to add 9th through 12th grades progressively each year.  HCA has an average ratio of 1 teacher for every 10 students.  The building has almost 30,000 sq. ft.:  it is fully equipped with offices for staff support, outside play grounds, regulation size gymnasium, a soccer field and more. Teachers and staff consist of church members who profess faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God who lived on the earth as a mortal man, who died for our sins and arose again on the third day.  Students will be from homes whose parents are strongly encouraged to assist in the education of their children in concert with the school. Parent participation is encouraged and welcomed in order that the school's academic objectives may be more easily attained.

The A Beka curriculum will be used.  It is the most widely accepted and approved curriculum for Christian schools; it also meets or exceeds all Tennessee state requirements.  The Bible will be integrated into every subject as much as possible, with Bible lessons on a daily basis. The school will be dedicated to academic excellence.  Traditionally, Christian schools have a history of being two grade years ahead of their contemporaries who attend public schools. It is not a guarantee that this will always be the fact, but it is a record that is currently being upheld at Heritage Christian Academy.  Students will be recognized for outstanding academic performance to the same degree that sports would be recognized in other schools. Aside from basketball, golf and soccer, we will also have other sports programs depending on coach availability.  Cheerleading will also be available.  It is our intent to have intramural competition with other Christian schools.

Heritage Christian Academy admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities, generally accorded or made available to students at the school.  It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.

HCA is solely funded by the generosity of people who desire to see God’s work accomplished.  The building and grounds are paid for solely by contributions of individuals, churches, and businesses.  Tuition subsidies are required for normal operations; individuals, churches and businesses fund scholarships.  We, at Heritage Christian Academy, have set ourselves to the task of teaching children that in life we must seek a proper relation with God.  We will teach that Jesus Christ is central in all truth, not just in the Word of the Bible, but in the arts, music, science, math, history, geography, language and also in the universe.

The mission of Heritage Christian Academy is to provide a quality education without compromising spiritual integrity, to equip children spiritually, academically and physically for today and eternity.

HCA is committed to offering a distinctively Christian and excellent academic education beginning with Kindergarten (starting at age three) and continuing through the 8th grade.  It is the responsibility of the staff members to diligently seek to instill the time honored values of not only faith in God, but also love of family, patriotism, respect for authority, and hard work.  The Academy seeks to work with parents in helping to fulfill the God given mandate in Proverbs 22:6 to "train up a child in the way he should go:  and when he is old, he will not depart from it" bringing them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4).

HCA believes the Bible to be the divinely inspired Word of God, inerrant in its original manuscripts.  We accept the traditional principles of Christianity outlined in the Bible as the standard for daily living.  As Christ is the cornerstone of the church, we believe that He is also the cornerstone of the educational process. For the spiritual and moral growth of the students, HCA seeks:

*       To teach the essential doctrines of the Christian Faith.
*       To lead the pupils into a personal, saving relationship with Christ as
         Lord and Savior.
*       To develop a desire to know and to do the will of God.
*       To develop a Biblical sense of right and wrong.
*       To foster self-discipline in the student, based on respect for and
reverence toward God and all authority.
*       To help pupils develop a consistent Christian philosophy of life by
integrating all subjects with the Bible.

Academically, HCA endeavors:

*       To promote high academic standards.
*       To help each pupil gain a comprehensive command of the
fundamental processes used in communicating withothers
(i.e. reading, writing, speaking and listening).
*       To foster an appreciation of our Christian and American
Heritage, of human dignity, which leads to good citizenship.
*       To impart knowledge of the world and current events
relative to God’s plan for men.

HCA believes in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, was crucified for our sins, died, and was buried, and rose again on the third day from the dead; that He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father; from thence, He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Church as the Body of Christ, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.  We believe God has ordained the basic institution of society to be the marriage of one man and one woman.
